Joe Safranek, K4JJS, SK

MPARC is deeply saddened that it has lost another of its longtime members. On June 31, 2021 Joe Safranek, K4JJS became a silent key.

Until recently, Joe was very active with the club, regularly attending club meetings and participating in special events and Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) activities. He was also one of the founding members of Gloucester’s CERT (Community Emergency Response Team.)

In addition to his involvement in amateur radio, he was also active with the Coast Guard Auxillary, serving as a Watchstander at Station Milford Haven, manning the communications system and training new Coast Guard members at the station. He was honored by the Auxillary for volunteering over 36,000 hours.

Joe is survived by his wife Joy Safranek, W2JMS, who coordinates the W5YI testing in Gloucester. His grandchildren, Elizabeth and Tyler, are also licensed amateurs.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, April 8, 2021 from 6:30–8:00 p.m. A private graveside service will be held on Friday. Memorial donations may be made to Gloucester Fire and Rescue or to The Wounded Warrior Project. Andrews Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
